In a general sense, there is not much to really debate about the discipline issue in our schools. Every competent teacher will tell you the same thing: without discipline and order in the classroom, you can forget about having an effective school. Of course, how to achieve effective order in a well-run classroom will vary depending upon the teacher. Teachers, students and parents, who are not idealogues, all understand this. All the current talk about “equity” or “restorative justice” or whatever the new buzz word of the day will not change the importance of basic discipline to control disrespect, violence and disorder in our schools.
